We love a great success story! Gin’s Facebook friend, Kathleen Underwood, sent us her story and her husband Scot’s story, both featured this month in Tulsa People Magazine! Kathleen’s email:
I wanted to share something with you and Gin. She has always been a huge motivator and inspiration to me for weight loss. Back in high school in the early to mid 90s, I taped her Step Reebok shows off of ESPN2 and used them to lose 60 lbs. Sadly, I abandoned my healthy exercising and eating habits and gained everything back plus some.
In August 2009, I was determined to not waste any more of my life being heavy and unhealthy so I dusted off my tapes. Along with the Step Reebok shows, I also incorporated strength training and within one year of exercising 5 days a week and eating properly, I lost 115 lbs.
Now a year and a half later I’ve kept it off and am determine to always keep it off. I would like to thank Gin for once again, being there to motivate me to reach my goals.
Please pass this on to her and let her know how grateful I am for her Step creation! It has saved my life…
Kathleen’s advice is to take a ‘before’ photo of yourself to serve as a reminder of your progress. Her path to success was doing Gin’s step workouts for cardio along with strength workouts 5 times per week, cutting portion sizes in half, eating several small meals throughout the day, and allowing herself one indulgence meal per week. Kathleen lost 115 pounds and has kept it off since July of 2009.
Scot’s journey was one that overcame a lifetime of struggle with weight. Coming from a poor family, he learned to cherish food when it was available, storing it “like a camel”, not knowing when he’d eat again.
Scot started out on his own by watching his diet and strength training, but eventually enlisted the help of a personal trainer after joining Sky Fitness. He does 50 minutes of cardio and strength trains 5 days per week. Scot no longer eats out of fear. He now eats for fuel by consuming several small smart meals every few hours. Starting at 570 pounds, Scot’s perseverance lost him 340 pounds!
Scot’s advice is to write down a ‘reason to live’ and to trade in junk food for that reason. He met a newreason to live, Kathleen, at Sky Fitness where they both continue to take a weekly Pilates class in addition to their regular workouts.
In September of 2010, Scot and Kathleen furthered their commitment, officially declaring each other as a reason to live – partners in life, health and fitness!
